Stone extraction and processing are two manufacturing activities having great environmental impact and generating strong consequences on the ecosystem. The Interreg Cleanstone project was funded with the main objective of creating a common framework for waste recovery techniques in the stone sector, so to generate less waste, reduce its environmental impact and become more competitive applying circular economy principles. Therefore, this project aims to encourage the adoption of reuse and recycling policies looking towards circular economy and, in this sense, it is very important to involve SMEs in the Vicenza area. Many companies operating in this sector (in different phases) can identify good practices already used or highlight the challenges they face in trying to make their activity more circular. It will be important to start from local enterprises in order to evaluate the current environmental impact of the processes and then identify the best way to value waste materials by recurring to existing or innovative practices. The resulting analysis will integrate the current legal framework, giving new inputs or proposing new laws in order to better meet the real needs of companies.
