In the Jakomini quarry in Bad Bleiberg in the south of Carinthia, Mineral Abbau GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of STRABAG AG, has been mining hard stone in open-cast mining since 1992. The type of rock extracted is diabase, which is extracted from the mountain by means of drilling and blasting work. This material is crushed in various sizes to obtain crushed stone, sands and chippings for construction purposes. The aim of the visit was to identify the various phases of the process and to explain which surplus products cannot be used.
